Saving for College
Cut Costs by Taking Classes Elsewhere
The average student takes four years to complete an undergraduate degree, which means the total cost of that education is four years at a specific school. But your student might be able to shorten the time spent at a four-year school by taking some required classes at a local community college, either in person or online. For example, say an introductory English literature course is required as part of your student's degree program; a similar class may be offered at a local community college at a significantly lower cost. By strategically taking certain classes, your student may be able to complete his or her degree in three and a half years instead of four at a lower total cost. Check out summer classes taking one or two classes each summer could not only be cheaper but could also allow your son or daughter to enter the workforce sooner (if that is his or her goal, of course).
